Sunshine

Lately we have been having great, sunny, warm (60s) weather, which ended yesterday. We are now in for about a week or so of rain. Ian and I have played outside everyday. Our snow is melted, so we usually go play out back. We look for ants, kick the ball around, race, etc. It is great to get out, especially since Ian usually takes a nap after we play outside (he wasn't really taking naps before this). I took him to the park several days after Rex got home from work. There is a river at the park and Ian loves to throw sticks in the water.

Mouse Update: I haven't seen any other signs of a mouse. I cleaned the kitchen, under the stove and microwave cart. I was going to get one of those black box mousetraps when we went shopping yesterday, but forgot because it wasn't on my list.

I think we have a mouse in the kitchen. I haven't actually really since it yet. Two mornings (today, included) I have seen something scurry across the kitchen out of the corner of my eye. It happened twice this morning. The second time, I saw it clearer and I really think it is a mouse. So I am going on a mouse hunt today. What mousetraps are good (humane, I don't want a dead mouse in my house)?

How to Train Your Dragon

On Tuesday we went down to Grand Junction. We went to the mall. We stopped at Payless and got Ian a couple pairs of shoes. His shoe size is bigger than I thought it would be. We got him a pair of sandals for the summer and a new pair of tennis shoes, since his were getting too small. We also went to the movies and watched How to Train Your Dragon 3D. This was the first 3D movie we have seen and it was fun. Ian kept the glasses on about half the time. He had to keep taking them off to see the difference. We liked the movie and Ian actually sat through all of it. On the way home we stopped at McDonalds. Ian got a happy meal, with a dragon toy from the movie.

Consummerism of Sorts

So I have been thinking about how much we buy, as a family and a society in general and things I want. It is hard for me to spend money (except on food). I takes me forever to buy clothes when I need something and then I have to take my sister so I can find good deals (she is great at finding deals). There are several things that I want for the house, but it is taking awhile to get them. For instance, a coffee table. We want to find a good cheap one and find one that we like. It is harder to find one than I thought when we first started looking. The one I really like from Ikea is $270 and it probably would be too big for our living room. We are still looking. I would also like a new dining room table (a bigger one), but that has to wait until we have a bigger place to fit a bigger table. I would also like matching couches, but I think we will able wait until we have a house to get that as well, since we can only fit one couch upstairs anyway, with the electric heaters along the wall (they are in the way when putting furniture in). We also want a new bed, but since that costs a lot of money, we have to save up for that. I refuse to buy anything on credit (unless we buy a house, obviously). I hate the feeling of owing money. We did have a Best Buy credit card to buy Rex's laptop for school and were paying that off for awhile. It feels great to now have that paid off!

We are planning on buying a Wii for Christmas. But to go with that we need a T.V. Rex wants a big screen and I do not see the need for a big screen. When we have looked at TVs they are all so big. Why are there not any small ones like there used to be? Also, when we do get a TV we will not be getting cable/satellite dish because it is pointless with the Internet, since you can watch a lot on the Internet, on the network sites.

Now on the topic of a second car. With Rex's job, we could afford a second car, but for some reason we are kind of reluctant to buy one. Part of me doesn't want one so I won't have to go grocery shopping by myself with two kids in tow. But it would be nice to have the freedom to go someplace when Rex is at work. I do get a ride to church on Sundays, since Rex can only make it to the last hour with his job. I like having someone to ride with and talked to. My dad has offered to buy us a car, he doesn't see how we can get by with just one, but it works out just fine and we want to be able to buy it ourselves when we eventually decide to go look at cars and get one.

Easter Time

So I was not as good as my last post. I did not do Easter stuff all week like I wanted to.

We had a fun Easter week. Rex's parents, Garrett, Hayden, and Danielle came Wednesday night (okay, maybe they got here at 1 am on Thursday). They drove in a snow storm. Thursday morning we had breakfast, and then waited out the weather. When the snow cleared a little, we left for Steamboat. We had orginally wanted to go to the hot springs, but with the snow we decided not to. We went to a restraunt at the base of one of the mountains and then walked downtown a little bit. We came back to our place and had an Easter egg hunt in the basement. Ian had fun looking for Easter eggs and candy with his uncles and aunt. Rex's mom got all of us kinder eggs. Ian was excited to find the toy inside, he didn't care about the chocolate on the outside. We had dinner and then Rex's family left because the snow had stopped.

My parents came on Friday. They got here a little before Rex got home from worked. It was sunny in the afternoon, so Ian and I were able to play outside a little while we waited for them to get here. We played games and had a ham dinner that night. (The ham was supposed to be for Rex's family but the power went out before we went to Steamboat on Thursday and I so couldn't start it in time). Saturday morning, the boys and I went with my parents to the park, to the town Easter egg hunt. Ian loved getting all the eggs. It was COLD though, it was snowing again. We came back and listened to Conference and talked to Kristi via gmail video chat. Ian loves video chat and seeing people he knows on there. When Rex got home, we went to Steamboat to eat and go bowling. We came home and had birthday cake for my mom. My parents left Sunday morning. Ian and I watched Conference on Sunday (well, Ian was in the room playing, I don't think he paid much attention).
