The "Joys" of Living in Ogden
(or maybe just our complex)
The past like 5 or 6 nights we have had a very annoying visitor outside our window. There has been a cat that has taken to coming around our place, in the middle of the night. It will sit outside our window and meow constantly, making it very hard to sleep. Sometimes its meows get really weird. The past couple nights it has been coming really, just when I am about ready to get ready for bed. It is already hard enough for me to sleep (one of the joys of being pregnant) and this cat does not help.
Early Sunday morning (3 am), we were woken by this guy talking very loudly on the phone. It was not a pleasant conversation to listen to as he swore like every other word. He was trying to get a ride, tell the person he was talking to directions, but the person was not getting it, so he kept getting louder and louder. He was drunk, he told the person on the phone. We think the person he was talking to was possibly drunk to, as they could not get his directions, which weren't that hard to follow.
Luckily, these things that have woken Rex and I up have not woken Ian up at night. Knock on wood. He just continues to wake up before 6, but I don't go in to him before 6.

Annoucement
We are expecting a baby in January. I am now 10 weeks along. We had our first doctor's appointment on Thursday. The doctor said everything looked great and on schedule. Rex really wanted twins, but thankfully there is only one baby (Rex made sure the doctor checked). We've tried telling Ian and showing him the ultrasound pictures, but I don't think he will get it until the baby is here.I am hoping to start potty training Ian soon and definitely before the baby arrives. Anyone have any advice on potty training or good books to read? I am also hoping we can get him into a regular bed soon. We will see how that goes. I am more nervous about that one.

Trains
Ian's new things is trains. He likes Thomas. So Saturday, we went to the Union Station and the train museums since it was free that day (there are some places that are free certain Saturdays this summer around Ogden and Weber counties, pretty nice). I forgot the camera Saturday. My mom and sisters came as well. It was rainy, but still fun. It was very busy because it was free and it was the Ogden Art Festival, held at the Union Station.
Ian loved the train scenery and tracks in one part of the museum and they had trains go around in the displays, which were all connected. He would stand right next to it and watch or if it was too high, ask to be held to watch.
While there we learned the Disney's Christmas Carol train was coming on Tuesday. So we went again yesterday and I remembered the camera this time. Ian was excited to go back and see the trains.The line was too long to go on the Christmas Carol train, like a 2 hour wait, so we stayed outside and looked and climbed on the trains that were outside.
This is as close as we got to the Christmas Carol train.

Anna's Wedding, Coolest Reception
I was going to upload pictures yesterday, but Ian decided he wanted to watch a movie and proceeded to put the movie correctly into the computer.
Anyways, Anna got married on Friday. The one good day this week, weatherwise. It rained every other day and in the morning on Friday, but not when they got married or the reception, it was actually sunny.
So Teri and I made the wedding cake. I thought it turned out pretty good for our first attempt at something like this. The cake was kind of tilting because when we put it together, we didn't do it quite right. But at least it didn't get any worse throughout the day.
The flowers on top of the cake, which matched the flowers in her bouquet. We didn't even talk to Julianna who did the flowers. These flowers are fake, because it was just easier for us.
Scott and Anna were married in the Timpanogos Temple. I love going to sealings and hearing what the sealer has to say beforehand. I don't remember a thing of the sealer told us when we got married.

At the reception, they had a bagpipe band come and perform at the beginning and a sword dancer. She just danced around the sword, without touching it and it is supposed to be good luck for the marriage. I had never seen something like this at a reception and thought it was cool. They also a band playing, made up of a violinist, cello, and harp player, very nice.

Idaho
We went up to Idaho this weekend to visit my grandma. Ian was good on the trip, he slept for some of the car ride and was pretty easily entertained the rest of the ride. We left Friday morning, it takes about 3 hours to get up there, so not too bad. We decided not to go see Rex's grandma this trip (an extra 4 hours each way up there). It was good to see my grandma and my uncle Neal. My other uncle, Mike, and his daughter Kadee and granddaughter stopped by Saturday night. They were going to a football game, semi professional football, a team my cousin plays on.
On Saturday we went up to Craters of the Moon. We looked around at the visitor's center and did a few of the short hikes/trails. Ian was able to do them because they were so short. It is pretty much all lava up there. I will post pictures tomorrow, when I get around to uploading the pictures. It was kinda cold and rainy so we didn't stay too long. Also, Ian was getting tired and slept most of the way back to my grandma's.
We went to my grandma's ward on Sunday. They have a huge ward and a lot of little kids. They have two nurseries. Rex said combined it looked like there was about 25 kids in the two. Wow! That is more than our ward. The people were nice there and a couple asked about grandma.
Sunday night my grandma's sister and her husband and son stopped by to visit for a few minutes. I guess I have met them before, but I don't really remember them. Grandma enjoyed having them over.
We left Monday morning. We stopped in Twin Falls, at the Snake River visitor's center there. We were going to drive down to the river, but there were some base jumpers, so we stayed and watched them. We got a couple on video, and I will have Rex post them (I don't know how to get things off our video camera). It was cool to watch. They jump off the bridge with parachutes and land by the river, they had a flag marking the landing spot. They were certified sky divers and everything, so they knew what they were doing.
It was funny listening to and watching Ian entertain himself on the way home. He would start talking loudly, or tickle himself. We also had capri sun juice things which he loved, both to drink and were great entertainment, he loves straws.

Job Search
Now that I am not working anymore, Rex is desperately searching for a job. A second job here so he can keep his job here or a full time job anywhere. So if anyone knows of any open jobs, let us know.
I am glad I decided (again) to stay home with Ian. He is such a fun boy and is learning lots at his age, so I need to be here with him. At the same time it was nice to work and get to know other people.

Things I love
1. I love that pretty much any owie can be cured be a kiss. I sat on my foot wrong this afternoon and said ow. Ian came over and kissed my foot, "All better."
2. "Cutie pie" and "silly boy." These are names I call Ian, and he will randomly repeat them. It is hilarious when he says "cutie pie" out of the blue.
3. Any type of noodle is "Mac and cheese"
4. Juice and fishies (gold fish crackers) are also a cure all most of the time.
5. Cuddling and reading with Ian before nap/bedtime.
6. Being able to lay in bed with Rex, after I start a movie for Ian in the morning (he gets up early) or take a shower.
7. Seeing Rex cook/bake. He made some great brownies on Sunday, cream cheese brownies. He is really good at following a recipe, much better than me.
8. Time to read before bed.
9. Going on walks as a family.
10. Playing memory with Ian. He chooses one picture and then searches for the match, he is starting to get the hang of the game. There are no turns. We just have to find the other cat or ball or whatever it is.

Smoking Ban
The Weber-Morgan Health Department banned smoking in public places, such as parks, cemeteries, sports fields, walking or running trails, and swimming pools. I am glad they were able to get this passed. To read the article from the Standard Examiner, click on the title of this post.
This law went into effect on Monday. I'm not quite sure how they will let everyone know and enforce it. The article said there would be signs, but at the two parks I went to today, I didn't see any signs.
This afternoon, Ian and I went to the park this afternoon, and there, sitting on the playground equipment, were a couple of teens (18 year oldish) smoking. I don't know if it was just tobacco or something else, I didn't get to close. But I actually told them they weren't supposed to smoke in the park. The guy said, "You mean on the playground." And I told him no and explained that they couldn't smoke in the park at all. I surprised myself by talking to them. I wasn't even scared talking to them, usually I don't start talking to people I don't know, especially about something they shouldn't be doing. They were even pretty big teens. Of course I didn't talk long, as Ian was pushing the stroller away from the playground.
Now if we could just get smoking banned from our apartment complex, or at least so far from the building. I hate just sitting inside our apartment and all the sudden smelling smoke. The other night I was woken up at 12:30 by smoke, I sleep right under the open window. It was very annoying. The guy that lives next door to us, goes across the parking lot to smoke, which is fine with me. But there are others, particularly the manager here, that smoke right outside the door, aka right outside our window. I should look in our contract to see what exactly it says about smoking. This is going to be annoying all summer long, as our windows will be open all summer (we don't have AC, so we will have fans and hopefully a window AC).
