Friends

Family and Friends,
I just wanted to share some cool news about friends of ours. They were in the same ward in BYU (Wymount) and are special people. They have four children, ages 2-9. It will be a fun adventure in Mongolia!

6 years old!

Ian had his 6th birthday last month. He had fun. The day of his birthday, which was a Friday, his class went on a field trip to a farm. I was able to go, a friend and I switched off watching kids since they also had a field trip (bowling) the previous Friday. We started out at a local community college, learning about fire, sun, and bike safety. We then had lunch at a park and then headed to the farm. We were able to watch them milk some cows. We then went to a barn with baby calves, lambs, and chicks. The kids got to feed bottles to the calves and hold the chicks. They also got to hold the baby lambs. It was funny to see Ian hold the lamb (I got a picture on my phone and need to figure out how to get it off).

That Saturday, Ian had some friends over for a birthday party. There were 5 kids that came. They played with play dough, built things with legos, played, and watched a movie. They were busy. I made lego brownies.

Ian is a great and smart boy. He reads so well. He did well in kindergarten and loved school. Here he is with his teacher on the last day of school.

He is very helpful. He loves to help me make dinner. He will do chores if he knows what he is to do (I have written and posted what his chores are each day and he does them for the most part). Ian is a great help with Kathryn and loves her very much. He likes to play with Jaiden, but they sometimes fight because they both want their way. He loves playing with others. He explains things in the greatest detail. You think you ask a simple question, but you will get a very detailed answer. He has to say the full name of things (the Aquarium is the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, he has to say the full name whenever we go).

Ian started playing soccer at the end of May. There are eight boys on his team, Rex is the coach. They have practice/games once a week (practice is the 20 minutes before the game). It is quite entertaining to watch six year olds play soccer. He has fun playing. Though he says he wants to play football when he gets older, we’ll see if that happens.

We have know for a couple years now that Ian has hearing loss in his right ear. We finally took him to the Children’s Hospital down at the University of Iowa. They tested him, he has moderate to severe hearing loss and they recommended a hearing aid. So today he finally got his hearing aid (he has been anxiously awaiting this day since we started talking about it).  He loves that he can now hear in that ear, though things are now loud. Rex  said that when they walked out side Ian said it was too loud out there.

He got a blue and yellow ear mold.
