Easter

We had fun this year for Easter. Every night the week before Easter we had a little devotional. I got some pictures out of the Gospel Art Kit, with Jesus that week before Easter. We talked about a picture or two each night. Jaiden loves pictures of Jesus and will point Him out and say “Jesus” (I’ll have to record him saying it sometime). Ian listened pretty well.

Thursday for story time at the library they had an Easter egg hunt. They read a couple Easter stories and then the kids got to find the eggs, hidden in the children’s section of the library. Jaiden loved finding eggs and of course Ian did too. Ian wanted to find more, but there weren’t a ton. Friday the boys and I colored eggs (Rex didn’t want to). Ian was very excited. Jaiden was too once he saw the cups and they had stuff inside. I didn’t get pictures of actually coloring the eggs, just before. Jaiden didn’t want to hold still for the picture, so Ian kept him there.

Saturday morning, the boys and I went down to the park for the town Easter egg hunt. Luckily the morning was nice, not raining or snowing, though I think it probably did later that day (probably rained and snowed). There were lots of kids and tons of eggs. Jaiden picked up a few eggs and then he would just stand and point at them, like “Mom, get that for me.” Ian filled his basket, I’m glad he didn’t have an Easter bucket like a lot of the kids so he couldn’t get tons of eggs.

We had our family Easter egg hunt Saturday afternoon when Rex got home from work. Ian “hid” the eggs that we painted and then I hid the plastic eggs. Ian’s hiding job was very obvious, like along the arm of the couch, on the TV stand, etc.

Easter we had crepes for breakfast (it was also Rex’s birthday). Rex and I spoke in church. Ian sang “Easter Hosanna” with the primary, or he stood up there while they sang. I had my first week in nursery and it went fine. Ian gave his first talk in Primary, Rex went in and helped him.

Worms

We have been having rain (and snow) lately. After it rains and we go outside to play, of course the first thing Ian noticed were all the worms out. I told him that worms live in the dirt and eat it, but when it rains they like to come out. One day we went out soon enough that they were all still alive and moving. Ian started picking them up and moving them to the dirt and grass.

Jaiden saw Ian picking up the worms, so he started doing it too. I didn’t get a picture of him with a worm though as I was too busy watching him to make sure he wouldn’t try to eat it. He did get one worm successfully to the grass, after dropping it several times.

Cousins

So one of Rex’s cousins got married this past weekend. Sadly we couldn’t go because Rex couldn’t get work off, but we are excited for his cousin and new wife. Two of his cousins also got engaged this weekend and one of them just graduated from BYU. We are so excited for them.

Rex’s cousins seem like they are my cousins as well (and sadly I know some of them better than I know some of my own cousins). I don’t know if it is they are my age or younger (mostly younger on his mom’s side with a couple our kids’ ages). I get to be the one to tell Rex when some of his cousins have a baby (since I am friends with some of them on facebook that he isn’t).

PS I do have a few cousins of my own that I am really close to.

Outside and Cupboards

We have been loving the warm days and being outside (minus the few days that are snowy like today). Here is a picture  from one of the parks.

Rex has set up his train a couple trains and Ian continually asks if we can set it up (because Rex’s train goes by itself unlike Ian’s Thomas trains).

Hearing

I took Ian to the preschool screening at the local elementary school. They did a hearing test. Ian’s left ear passed but the right ear failed. The guy said it was a pass/fail test so even just a little thing could cause a fail. He wanted me to bring Ian into his office for more tests in a couple weeks. So I called last week and made an appointment for yesterday. He did more tests, testing for fluid and whatever else (no fluid). Then he took Ian into a sound booth and tested both ears seeing how loud/quiet of sound he could hear in each ear. His right ear does have some hearing loss and may continue to lose hearing and we think it is genetic since Rex’s mom has it too. He did kind of quit cooperating at one point so he wasn’t exactly sure what Ian could hear in his right ear.

The doctor said it shouldn’t really affect him too much. He will probably get preferential seating in school so he can hear everything, but will probably be about it.

I hadn’t really noticed him favoring one ear until recently, after the screening. When I whisper in his right ear, he doesn’t really hear me and when he talks on the phone he uses his left ear.

Is it spring yet?

We have had some really “warm” days. I put that in quotations because some people (Kristi) would probably think it is still cold. We have played outside a lot. Ian still loves riding his bike. We like to go to the park.

We will have a warm day and the next day it can snow again (thankfully the new snow melts pretty fast). We got quite the rain storm during the night and we can a lot more of the backyard (we can play back there soon, maybe even this afternoon). Apparently Utah got a lot of snow yesterday/last night (according to my parents), but we only got rain (crossing my fingers). But of course as soon as I say this we will probably get snow again soon.

I have been doing preschool with Ian each morning (it only takes 5-10 minutes) and we are now on the letter Z and then we are going to review all the letters (several at a time each week). Ian can name about half to two thirds of the letters. He can write his first name and is working on our last name and is doing okay.

Jaiden is getting new teeth, his eye teeth finally so he won’t have gaps between his other teeth and molars anymore. But this also means that he is not sleeping very well at night. He is now down to one nap a day. He says several words: hi, bye, ball, ro (rock), baby, eat, mom and fish. He loves all animals that he sees and always wants to pet them. He really wants to ride Ian’s bike and is not too interested in his push truck.

Rex is finally going to have Sundays off for the next month! I am planning on sending Ian to him if he doesn’t behave in Sunbeams/Primary.

Random Thoughts and What we have done this last month

As I was checking blogs this morning, I realized it has been almost a month since I last posted, so here it goes and it will be long.

As I was watching Conference this morning, I got to thinking about how my view/appreciation for Conference has changed. When we lived in Michigan, it was always a fun weekend. Either my dad would clean the carpets and therefore we would be gone from the house all day or having people over at our house to watch Conference. My parents got a dish when we lived in Michigan so we would be able to watch Conference (and BYU games). So we always had the people that lived in our town over to watch it (since the church was a 20 minute drive away). It was always great to have friends over. Shortly after we moved to Utah, we got tickets to go to a session of Conference in the new Conference Center, it was great. I think it was around then that I started really appreciating listening to the Prophet and apostles speak. I always get so much from Conference. My first year at school, my roommates and I went up to Salt Lake for the Saturday or Sunday sessions and sat outside the Tabernacle to listen and enjoy the beautiful weather. After Rex and I were married, we got to go to a session at the Conference Center.

I enjoyed the talks this morning, which I heard most of between the boys playing and the live streaming stopping and starting the whole time (I don’t know if it is just our computer or if it is something with how they are streaming it, but it wasn’t working the greatest). Rex will be home for the afternoon session and hopefully he can get it working.

We have had beautiful weather the past few days (I have been trying not to get my hopes up as I know we will probably get more snow). The boys have loved being outside, riding bikes, and going to the park. We finally were able to get Ian’s bike out from under the deck, the snow melted enough so we could crawl under and get it. We still have a lot of snow in the backyard, but you can see that it is slowly melting. The front is almost all melted (including the huge snow plow piles). The sun makes a lot of difference. Anyways, Ian is doing great on his bike. After him not really wanting to ride it that much last summer, I wasn’t sure if he would ever really want to ride, but the past few days he has lived on his bike. Jaiden wants to ride the bike too, he could care less about his truck push toy thing. We have gone to the park the last few days. I was wondering how Jaiden would like the slides since he hadn’t really been on one. He LOVES the slide. He will climb up the stairs and go right down the slide all on his own. He goes down on his stomach, feet first. When Ian was little (like Jaiden’s age) he went down head first on his stomach.

He also wants the camera whenever he sees it and he finally noticed I had the camera out.

I cut Jaiden’s hair for the first time about a month ago. It took me like a week or two to take a picture of his hair cut. It is impossible to get a picture of the kid, he is always on the go. He kept wanting to see what I was doing, but did pretty well (better than Ian’s first hair cut).

Last week we went to Draper to visit Rex’s family and see Garrett before he goes into the MTC. We left Sunday afternoon when Rex got off work. Spent Monday and Tuesday morning with family and got home Tuesday night. We went to the Church History Museum Monday afternoon. We spent most of the time in the children’s area, Ian and Jaiden loved it.

Also at the beginning of the month we watched BYU playing the NCAA tournament.  The boys enjoyed watching with us a little bit. I will post the video of them cheering tomorrow.
