Thanksgiving and other happenings

We enjoyed Thanksgiving with my family and some extended family. It was a great day. I made my first turkey and think it turned out fine (I don't know if I had any of it or not since my mom made one too and they were carved and put together). At least I didn't notice any difference. Making a turkey isn't so bad. We had lots of yummy food and good company. We were able to play games after dinner since everyone stuck around for awhile. I even went shopping with Anna at Walmart (I swear the only store open on Thanksgiving), even though I hate Walmart. She was looking for a Christmas present for her husband. The boys all played football in the backyard at one part. I should see if David has any pictures, since I need to post some since I haven't posted any all month.

After everyone left and Ian went down for bed, my mom, sister Teri, and I went to Micheals, they had their Black Friday sales Thursday night and on Friday. It wasn't crowded at all and was nice. I was able to get some paint for cheap.

Friday morning we went to some of the Black friday sales, it was my first time. Rex left at midnight to go stand in line at Best Buy. He was able to get what he wanted at 5 am. Teri and her boyfriend left at 3 and went to JC Penny and then headed over to Best Buy. My dad wanted a laptop. The one he originally wanted sold out quickly, so he got a netbook, which he loves. My dad and I left the house after 5 and he dropped me off at JoAnns (which had kind of a long line) and he went to Home Depot to get a prelit Christmas tree (he doesn't like putting the lights up on the tree). I took the longest, but spent the least. Once I got my fabric, I got a number to get it cut (I should have gotten a number first). I had to wait a long time to get it cut. Rex met me at the store and got in the check out line while I got my fabric cut. I also got a cheap pattern that has a bunch of baby things to make.

I went Friday afternoon with my parents and sister to watch New Moon. It was okay. I am not that into the books. I had to go to say that I saw it. I can say that the characters looked much better in this movie than the first one.

Saturday we decorated my parents' house for Christmas. The prelit tree didn't work so we had to take it back and used the old tree. My sister was happy about that. My sister and her boyfriend put the lights up and then I helped decorate it.

We watched the BYU/Utah game, of course. It was exciting to win!

Yesterday morning we decorated our apartment for Christmas. I love having the tree up and so does Ian. First thing this morning we had to turn on the lights.

Last night, Rex asked Ian to say family prayer. So I was about to help him, but he told me no. So Ian said the prayer by himself. He said, "Heavenly Father, thank thee, bless, and ask thee, Jesus Christ, amen." It was quite cute and funny.

Day 24- Thanksgiving

There are many things I am thankful for, several of which I have posted about this month.

Day 23 (yesterday)- Family Activities

We spent the day yesterday with my parents and sister. Last night we went to the Jubilee of Trees here in Ogden (like the Festival of Trees) with my parents. The trees were so gorgeous and it was free to go look at! I love free things. Either this weekend or Monday we will go see the Christmas Village downtown, they are lighting it up on Saturday.

Day 22- Projects

I love having things to work on. I love making things, food or craft (just not scrapbooking, don't do so well with that). Thus, I start Christmas projects at the beginning of the year. This morning I made a Merry Christmas sign out of some foam that I got for cheap last week. Ian wanted to hang it right away, but I told him we have to wait until after Thanksgiving. So he kept repeating that today.

Day 21- Answers to Prayers

I am so grateful that Heavenly Father answers prayers.

Day 20- Safe Travel

We got home safely. It snowed some this afternoon/evening up here. We left Rex's parents and it was clear. By the time we got to Davis county it was a little snowy/rainy. We stopped at my parents' for dinner and it really started snowing (a wet snow but it still stuck). We left in the snow and got home safely. I am always nervous about driving in snow, especially since our accident the December before Ian was born. But we made it safe and didn't slide at all (the hills around here also make me nervous in the snow).

Day 19- Family

We are down at Rex's parents this weekend for our Thanksgiving celebration. It is great to be with family and have people around to watch and play with Ian so we can relax some.

Day 18- Great Sales/Closing Sales

I went to a local craft store that is closing soon. Their sales are now 90% off. It was great. I saved 50 and only spent 6 for some great stuff.

Can I Just Tell You Now Excited I Am?

I am excited for this weekend and next week. I love holidays, especially ones where we get together with family. This weekend we are going down to Rex's parents to celebrate Thanksgiving (early). We were going to go down tomorrow, but Rex has to work, so we have to wait until Saturday morning. I am disappointed that we don't get to go tomorrow, but oh well. I love spending time with family. This weekend will be all about family (Rex's cousins that are school out here or live here will be there also). I am also excited for Rex's family reunion next summer. I won't remember most people's names (well, at least putting names to faces) since it has been five years. Plus Rex will have three new cousins (weird that they are close to Ian's age or younger), one which we have already met, but still.
I am also excited for Thanksgiving. Two of my dad's siblings plus their families will be with us at Thanksgiving. I pretty sure that my mom said Anna and Scott were even coming! We just need Kristi to be here and I have to keep reminding myself she will be here over Thanksgiving.
Also, having Thanksgiving done means only one more holiday until Jaiden gets here! Yes, I am counting my pregnancy by holidays. I keep telling Ian that Jaiden will be here after Christmas. Rex keeps trying to tell me that the baby will come on Christmas day, but I say anytime after Christmas, just not Christmas day (besides that would be a little too early).
I am also excited to be able to decorate for Christmas, maybe even next Friday! Last year we didn't have our own place to decorate, but this year we do! I love doing all the Christmas things and all the Christmas parties. Also, I am almost all set with Christmas gifts. I am working on Ian's, need another one for Rex (I have something in mind), and then two other family members (one which I can not think of a thing of what to get/make). Of course this has taken me the whole year to get to this point since I have made most of the things. I am starting to focus on stuff for the baby, like making a blanket and stuff.
I know this post is kind of random, but Rex is working late and I'm bored and don't want to go to bed yet.

Day 17- Dishwasher

I love having a dishwasher and not having to wash and dry every single dish we use. Sure I have to wash pots and pans, but that is nothing compared to washing the dishes we eat on as well.

Day 16- Cooking

I like to cook (most of the time). I am grateful that I can cook and follow a recipe and most of the time it turns out. I made bread today and it actually rose and turned out really good. The last two times haven't been as good, they didn't raise, so I got out new yeast today. I also love trying new recipes. I am also grateful that I can have days were I don't feel like making dinner and it doesn't really matter. Like tonight, we had waffles, I didn't feel like making anything else after making bread.

Day 15- Sunshine

Today was a gorgeous, sunny day. We were even able to turn off the heat for the afternoon (need to remember to turn it back on before bed), since the sun heats up our place very well. Ian and I went outside and played in the leaves and snow at the park. There were plenty of leaves to bury him in and then a few feet away there was snow to play in. Ian loves walking in the snow. When it snowed on Saturday, he wanted to go out and play but we were at my parents and didn't have his snow things. As soon as we went outside to get in the car, he was in the snow. After church on Sunday it was hard to get him to the car since he just wanted to walk around in the sun. But I love the sun, and it made me happy today!

Day 14- Healthy Pregnancy

I am grateful this pregnancy has been healthy/uncomplicated. I didn't have to go in for extra ultrasounds or non stress tests this time as I did with Ian, much less of a hassle. Hopefully everything will continue to go smoothly.
I had a doctor's appointment today to help me think about this. She said everything look/sounded great.

Day 13- My sister Kristi

Kristi lives in California with her husband were he is going to school. It is hard not seeing her that often but it is great to talk to her on the phone. We call each other at least once a week and talk for a long time about random stuff. She is one of my best friends. I am so thankful that I have great sisters!

Day 12- My sister Teri

I am grateful for my sister Teri. She is a fun, happy girl. She came down for the weekend, well they (her and her boyfriend) have gone back some time today but didn't want to go through Logan canyon with the snow. Ian loves his Aunt Teri and playing with her. He got upset each time she had to leave to go do something.

Day 11- Dates (this one is for yesterday)

So I missed posting yesterday. I am thankful that I can go out on dates with my husband. Last night I picked him up from the Union Station because he had been in Salt Lake officiating at a football game (he was the ball boy). We met my sister and her boyfriend at the mall and hung out. We walked around looked at different stores. I even got a maternity skirt (cute and on sale!). This is the first one I have gotten (even when I was pregnant with Ian) since I had wrap around skirts. It was fun to hang out with my sister as well. Ian spent the night at my parents, so Rex and I came home and watched 24 (we are in season one, so don't tell us what happens). We were able to sleep in a bit this morning and do some grocery shopping before we went back to my parents' to see Ian and watch the BYU game.

Day 10- A place of our own

I am thankful that we have a place to live (liked living with my parents, but much better to have our own space). I am thankful that we have two bedrooms so Ian actually has his own room and not the living room. Our apartment is decent size and works with our needs.

Day 9- Rex's Parents

Rex's parents are great and very supportive. They help us out in any way they can and are always willing to encourage us. They show their love for us in many ways.

Day 8- Public Libraries

Public libraries are a great thing. You can check out books and movies for free and return them (love that part about checking out movies, you only have to watch/hear them for a week and they are gone). We went to the library all the time growing up, my sisters and I would often ride our bikes down to the local library.

Day 7- Visiting Teaching

I love to go visiting teaching and getting to know the sisters that I teach. I don't do most of the talking (no surprise) but listen as my companion and the women talk. We went visiting teaching today and as always was a good experience (still need to get inside one house for the actual visit instead of standing in the doorway for the 15-20 minute visit, it was cold).

Craft Fair

My mom and I went to a craft fair/boutique thing on Saturday. It was at a Baptist Church around here. I have never really been to one before. They had a lot of different stuff and a lot of different vendors contributed stuff, even a lady that I worked with at the elementary school last year. There was tons of cute stuff. My mom says she doesn't go to these things that often because she would spend too much. Luckily, I had very strict limits on what I could spend, so I only got Rex a Christmas present, when I found it, I had to get it. My mom got some blankets, one for our baby and one for someone else's coming baby. We found a cute pillow for Ian, just his size. My mom got me letter blocks that spell "Harvest." My mom got a cute snowman Christmas decoration. It was fun to do something with my mom. I think I will go to more of these in the future. Most of the things were pretty cheap, with a few exceptions. There was a car seat blanket (attaches to the car seat handle) that was really cute, but $30, so I think I will get some fabric and make my own (didn't look too hard).

Day 6- Our Ward

I love our ward. Most of the people are friendly and willing to help. There are also a ton of opportunities to serve. I am still working on getting to know people (being in nursery didn't help except with the parents of the kids). It is great to be in a ward with people of all sorts of ages and backgrounds (Wymount was great, but now I get to learn from a lot of different people). There are also a lot of convert baptisms in our ward (we had two this week and one is coming up next Saturday, if we remember hopefully we can go to the baptism). We had a linger longer today after church. A lot of people stay to talk and eat (the food does not last long). The Bishop is great and really tries to help people, he was the one who got Rex into officiating high school football games.

I love going visiting teaching and visiting the sisters that I do. They are all older than me and in vastly different stages of their lives (some married, some not), but I learn a lot each time we go visit them. And I will hopefully be getting visiting teachers soon (the visiting teacher supervisor told me today that I would be getting some). Hopefully we will get home teachers soon now that Rex is in the Elder's Quorum presidency.

Day 5- My Parents

My parents are great. They do a lot for us and love us. Just today, they surprised us with a bed (frame) for Ian. We were planning on getting one after Rex's next paycheck. They also got a comforter set and Ian loves it (it is a Lightning McQueen one). Dad is sure to check on our car and make sure everything is working properly when we come. Mom is willing to help whenever we need help, either with babysitting or other things. I am very grateful for all they do and for raising me and my sisters. Getting to laundry for free is great also.

Day 4- My Eternal Companion

I am so thankful for Rex and all that he does for us. He is a good man and works hard and plays hard. He helps around the house too. He is supportive of things that I want to do or try to do. He will get up with Ian sometimes during the night (more so now, since if I go Ian won't let me leave). I am glad to be married to my best friend. I love you, Rex!

Day 3- Music Makers

I love having time to go be with some of the women in my ward regularly. Ian loves playing with the other kids and running around. Though he doesn't really sit and participate in the singing, it is still fun to go. He will sometimes sing the songs at home though.

Day 2- My Big Helper

Ian loves to help do things. He helps me clean the bathroom each week; he helps scrub the tub and the inside of the toilet (this is his favorite). I think he likes that we can actually put something in the toilet and swish it around ("play"). He gets to wash his own dish off. I also sometimes remember to have him help put away one or two things on the table after dinner. He loves to "help" me cook, especially dumping stuff in the bowl or stirring it.
Lately I have been trying to get him to help me make his bed, so it will become a habit. The first time was after we had been up a little bit, but that didn't work, he just wanted to play on the bed and proceeded to take all the blankets and sheets off. The next day, as soon as he woke up, we made his bed and that worked much better (it actually stays made).
Whenever he is helping, he says, "Big Helper." I am so glad that he loves to help. Though picking up toys at the end of the day is hit or miss.

Thankful- Day 1 (Yesreday)

A friend is posting something she is thankful for the whole month of November and I thought it was a good idea, so I am going to start today (actually for yesterday).

Day 1- A beautiful day to play outside in the leaves with Rex and Ian. Having Rex home three evenings in a row for dinner!
